‘Smell’ of war comes to St Petersburg as Ukraine hammers Russian refineries

In St Petersburg, Konstantin, a 53-year-old man, senses the consequences of the war in Ukraine through the smell of burning oil due to Ukrainian attacks on Russia's two largest oil terminals. These facilities, which handle two-fifths of Moscow's seaborne oil exports, have been targeted as part of Kyiv's efforts to reduce Moscow's unexpected windfall income from oil exports. The attacks aim at more than a dozen refineries deep in Russia.
