Uganda discharges last Ebola patient, begins 42-day countdown to declare outbreak over

Uganda discharged its last Ebola patient on Thursday after the person tested negative, starting a 42-day countdown to declare the outbreak over. Health Minister Chris Baryomunsi presided over the discharge ceremony at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala. WHO representative Kasonde Mwinga praised the country's preparedness, noting the case fatality rate was kept below 10%. The outbreak was declared on May 15 after a patient from neighboring DR Congo.
