Benin's new president Romuald Wadagni made a lightning visit to Niamey and Ouagadougou on June 2, 2026, to restore dialogue with Niger and Burkina Faso. The talks resulted in an agreement to reopen the Benin-Niger border, closed since the 2023 coup, and the creation of an expert committee to remove obstacles. Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to unite forces against Sahelian terrorism. President Wadagni invited his counterparts for official visits to Benin.
