Treasury unit approves 300MW Suswa geothermal project

The Geothermal Development Company (GDC) has been cleared to start feasibility studies for a 300 MW geothermal power project in Suswa, Narok County. The project aims to begin with an initial capacity of 50 to 100 MW to meet Kenya's rising electricity demand. The Suswa geothermal fields are estimated to hold at least 750 MW of geothermal power, to be developed in phases over a 35-year period.

KMRC prices green bond at 12.2pc, eyes tax-free sweetener

The Kenya Mortgage Refinancing Company (KMRC) has offered a fixed interest rate of 12.2 percent per annum for an eight-year green bond aimed at raising Sh3 billion. KMRC is awaiting confirmation from the Kenya Revenue Authority regarding the tax exemption for its bond, which is compliant with the Income Tax Act. This issuance marks the second tranche of a Sh10.5 billion bond program, following a successful debut issuance in 2022.
