Staff at Rwampara General Hospital in Ituri province, the epicentre of the Ebola outbreak in DR Congo, went on strike on Monday, alleging they have not been paid for months, bringing the facility to a standstill. The striking workers included epidemiologists, case investigators, drivers and gravediggers. The outbreak, the worst in Africa's history, has spread to two new northeastern provinces: Haut-Uele and Tshopo, according to the National Public Health Institute. Efforts to contain the virus are complicated by the presence of paramilitary rebels, misinformation, and community distrust.
