Police and NTSA Launch Nationwide Road Safety Crackdown Ahead of School Holidays

Kenya’s National Police Service and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) have launched a nationwide road safety campaign as schools close for the long holiday. Checks will target speeding, overloaded or unroadworthy vehicles and failure to wear seat belts, with thorough inspections of school transport vehicles and more officers deployed. Authorities urged motorists to obey speed limits, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and not use mobile phones while driving; parents and guardians were advised to choose reputable transport operators. NTSA data show that a child struck at 30 km/h faces a 10% risk of death, rising to more than 80% at 50 km/h.
