Malawi: FOCSU Demands Sweeping Salary Hike, Slams Government Over 'Token' Adjustment

The Federation of Civil Service Unions (FOCSU) has demanded a major overhaul of salaries and allowances for civil servants, rejecting the government's recent 10-20 percent pay increase as inadequate. At a press conference in Lilongwe, interim president Solomon David Chomba called for a 100 percent salary increase, citing the soaring cost of living. FOCSU also criticized outdated transport allowances and demanded the remittance of unpaid pension contributions by the government.
