Mali: Kidal under rebel control, uncertainties about the junta's future

Tuareg rebels, allied with jihadist groups, have taken control of Kidal, a strategic city in northern Mali, following attacks on junta positions. Defense Minister Sadio Camara has been killed, and junta leader General Assimi Goïta has not been seen since the hostilities began. Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maiga stated that the enemy aimed to seize power by dismantling the Republic's institutions.
