Mali: Nigeria warns that the fall of Kidal could destabilize the region

Nigerian Defense Minister Christopher Musa warned of regional destabilization risks following the takeover of Kidal by rebel and jihadist groups. The April 25, 2026 attacks by GSIM and FLA resulted in the death of Malian Defense Minister Sadio Camara. Musa emphasized that the control of FLA and GSIM could facilitate arms trafficking to other areas, particularly the tri-border region of Nigeria-Benin-Niger, seen as an expanding jihadist hotspot.
