Voter apathy in Nigeria rising geometrically, says Chidoka

Former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, raised concerns about the increasing voter apathy in Nigeria, noting that voter turnout has dropped from 53.7% in 2011 to 27% in 2023. Speaking at the 2nd Distinguished Personality Lecture Series at Enugu State University of Science and Technology, he highlighted that this trend reflects a troubling political culture. Chidoka also pointed to structural challenges within Nigeria's electoral system, such as election-day logistics and scheduling, which discourage voter participation.
