The project, backed by CONMEBOL and supported by the Argentine, Paraguayan, and Uruguayan federations, faces opposition from UEFA and AFC over scheduling. Infantino cited record revenues for 2026 and said a formal decision will be made after the 2026 World Cup final in New York.
