Foodstuffs: The new government's first major decision for fishing

Senegal's new government, led by Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo but with the meeting chaired by his chief of staff and Fisheries Minister Amy Mara Dièye, has postponed the allocation of new fishing licenses in coastal demersal fisheries. The decision follows a four-hour meeting with industry stakeholders (GAIPES, UNMS, UNAPAS, CLPA) and relies on CRODT data showing a residual stock of only 2,950 tons and overexploitation of several species. This cautious move aims to preserve fishery resources critical for food security for millions of Senegalese.
