Myanmar’s coup leader elected president by pro-military parliament

General Min Aung Hlaing, who orchestrated a coup in 2021 against the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi, has been elected president of Myanmar by the pro-military parliament. He received at least 293 votes out of 584 in a vote that confirmed his grip on political power.
