Niger says soldiers, civilians killed in armed attack on Niamey airport

An attack by armed men on Niamey's Diori Hamani International Airport killed 11 soldiers and 2 civilians, according to Niger's defence ministry. Twenty-two attackers were also killed and about 20 suspects were apprehended. The fighting began around 6:00am local time around the airport complex and adjacent military airbase. No immediate claim of responsibility was made, but a previous attack in January was claimed by an ISIL affiliate in the region.
