Nigeria must protect the classroom

Nigeria faces a troubling educational crisis, with attacks on schools and abductions of students. As of August 2026, only 56 of the 113 primary schools in Askira-Uba, Borno State, were operational, while 80 students abducted in May and June remained captive. Despite the country's commitment to the Safe Schools Declaration and a national policy on school safety, the lack of implementation jeopardizes the education of hundreds of thousands of Nigerian children.
