Israel election: When will a government be formed, and who will lead it?

After the October 27 legislative election, Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition lost its majority, while the Jewish parties opposing him also fell short of the 61 seats needed in the Knesset. The pro-Netanyahu bloc won 53 seats, opposition Jewish parties won 48 and Arab-led parties secured 19. The results must be certified and submitted to President Isaac Herzog by November 4; the new Knesset is due to be sworn in on November 10, and Herzog must appoint a lawmaker to form a government by November 11. Talks could produce a unity or minority government, but failure to reach an agreement could lead to another election.
