Nairobi Traders Raise Alarm Over Rising Food Prices Amid High Transport Costs

Traders at Wakulima Market in Nairobi have warned of a potential rise in food prices due to increased transport costs stemming from recent fuel price hikes. Petrol prices have risen by Ksh16.65 per litre and diesel by Ksh46.29 per litre, leading to additional transport costs of nearly Ksh10,000 per trip. The price of a bucket of potatoes has already increased from Ksh700 to Ksh800, and consumers may soon face an additional Ksh20 increase per kilogram for tomatoes and onions.
