NDC moves to end political defections, makes candidates sign indemnity forms

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Nigeria has mandated all its governorship and National Assembly candidates to sign indemnity forms as part of an anti-defection policy. National Chairman Senator Moses Cleopas stated that the policy aims to ensure party loyalty and strengthen democratic institutions. The party will rely on the affidavit if candidates leave after winning elections, asserting that the mandate belongs to the party and the voters. The signing ceremony took place in Abuja ahead of the 2027 general elections.
