NEMA Flags Several Nairobi Businesses Over Toxic Chemicals, River Pollution

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) issued Improvement Notices to two Nairobi businesses, Kenrom Chemicals Ltd and the Kayole Slaughterhouse, for serious breaches of environmental regulations. Kenrom Chemicals was cited for non-compliance with toxic chemical management regulations, while the slaughterhouse was found discharging untreated effluent into a Nairobi River tributary. Additionally, the slaughterhouse lacked a valid Effluent Discharge License and proper personal protective equipment for its workers.
