The International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law (Intersociety) reported that 1,402 Christians were killed or abducted in Nigeria between January 1 and April 6, 2026. During Holy Week, 102 deaths were recorded, including 34 on Easter Sunday. Intersociety's president, Emeka Umeagbalasi, accuses the Nigerian government of downplaying the violence and spending millions to contest the extent of the attacks. The violence, which now affects central and southern regions, is linked to a long-standing issue, with approximately 16,000 to 17,000 Christians killed between 2019 and 2023.
