A Nigerian court sentenced four men to death for the 2022 attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, which killed 41 worshippers and injured over 100. The convicts—Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, Al Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, and Abdulhaleem Idris—also received 20 years in prison for belonging to a terrorist group. A fifth defendant, Momoh Otuho Abubakar, was acquitted due to insufficient evidence. The death sentence requires presidential assent before execution.
