Nigerian carriers face harshest operating conditions — IATA

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has lamented the high operating costs faced by Nigerian airlines, stating that aside from Afghanistan, Nigeria remains one of the most difficult places to establish and sustain an airline business. Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East, Kamil Al-Awadhi, said the costs associated with airline operations in Nigeria are enormous. He also decried the slow implementation of the ECOWAS directive on a 25% reduction in regional air transport charges. Despite efforts by Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, conditions remain challenging for indigenous carriers.
