Nigeria's poverty rate rose to 63% in 2025 despite a slowdown in inflation, according to the World Bank. The report states that the share of the population living below the poverty line increased from 56% in 2023 to 61% in 2024, and then to 63% in 2025, equivalent to about 140 million people. Although inflation has eased, household incomes have not grown enough to offset this decline, worsening living conditions.
