NLC threatens solidarity strike with teachers over kidnappings

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened to join a solidarity action with teachers and other workers if governments fail to address rising insecurity and the abduction of teachers, pupils and students. NLC President Joe Ajaero expressed support for the ongoing strike by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) led by Titus Audu Amba, calling it a necessary response to kidnappings and attacks on schools. Ajaero lamented that Nigeria is becoming a horror scene due to kidnappings, citing cases in Zamfara, Oyo, Maiduguri, and Port Harcourt. The NLC has held two security summits and street protests, the last in 2024, and will not hesitate to launch solidarity action if the government does not take collective security seriously.
