Norbert Basengezi elected 2nd Vice-President of the Senate

Senator Norbert Basengezi was elected as the 2nd Vice-President of the Senate of the Democratic Republic of the Congo with 87 votes out of 95 on Friday, April 3, 2026. He succeeds Modeste Bahati, who resigned on March 18, 2026, under the threat of a motion of no confidence. Basengezi, born on January 10, 1958, previously served as Vice-President of the National Electoral Commission and Governor of South Kivu.
