NSCDC decries rising illegal mining, warns perpetrators to desist

The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi, expressed concerns about the rising cases of illegal mining, describing it as a serious national security threat. During a visit by officials from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), he emphasized that illegal mining is no longer just an economic crime and requires coordinated, intelligence-driven responses. The collaboration between NSCDC and UNODC began in 2025, enhancing the operational capacities of officers combating mineral-related crimes.
