Obodo takes charge of Abakaliki Diocese after Bishop Chukwu's death

The Catholic Church has appointed Ernest Anaezichukwu Obodo as Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Abakaliki following the death of Peter Nworie Chukwu. The appointment was announced in a decree dated April 12, 2026, issued by the Dicastery for Evangelization. As Apostolic Administrator, Bishop Obodo, currently serving as Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Enugu, will oversee the affairs of the Abakaliki Diocese until a new bishop is appointed.
