PDP welcomes Iyabo Obasanjo, hands her Ogun senate ticket

Iyabo Obasanjo, former senator and daughter of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, left the APC after losing the governorship ticket, citing disrespect and betrayal. On June 17, 2026, she was officially received into the PDP at a rally in Abeokuta. State PDP chairman Abayomi Tella presented her with the party flag and announced her as the PDP candidate for Ogun Central Senate seat. She took the party oath of loyalty. Gubernatorial candidate Adebutu promised local government autonomy and financial transparency.
