Omar Hilale at GITEX Africa: Shaping a More Inclusive Future for AI

On the second day of GITEX Africa 2026 in Marrakech, Omar Hilale, Morocco's UN representative, emphasized that artificial intelligence has become a structural force reshaping global power. He highlighted Africa's marginal position in the AI market, which accounts for only 2.5% of the global share. Hilale also criticized the lack of specific AI regulations in 90% of UN member states, pointing out a dangerous governance vacuum.
