Cameroon suspends opposition party

Cameroon’s territorial administration minister, Paul Atanga Nji, has suspended the opposition Cameroon National Salvation Front (FSNC) for three months. The party, led by Issa Tchiroma Bakary, who is in exile in Gambia, is accused of “incitement to insurrection” and “serious disturbance of public order” before, during and after the October 12, 2025 presidential election, won by Paul Biya. Bakary had declared himself the winner and urged supporters to defend his “victory,” prompting protests that were brutally suppressed and caused deaths. The suspension comes ahead of local and parliamentary elections scheduled for early 2027; the FSNC has two members of parliament.
