Uganda: opposition leader Kizza Besigye refuses court-appointed lawyers during his trial

Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye on Wednesday refused to accept court-appointed lawyers for his treason trial. He has been in detention since late 2024 after being abducted in Kenya and secretly returned to Uganda. His lead lawyer, Erias Lukwago, was arrested, and another lawyer, Martha Karua, was denied entry into Uganda.
