Amnesty International has accused Moroccan intelligence services of using a sophisticated surveillance system to intimidate and silence journalists and human rights defenders. The report is based on the testimony of a former DGST employee, digital forensic analyses, leaked documents, and interviews with targeted individuals. The organization states that the Pegasus spyware, developed by NSO Group, has been used since 2017 until at least 2021 to abusively target these individuals, along with other surveillance tools from Israeli, European, and American companies.
