Solicitors for the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, have urged the Council of Legal Education to dismiss a petition seeking the withdrawal of his law qualification certificate, describing it as "fundamentally deficient in law." The petition, filed by John Aikpokpo Martins, claimed that Kalu's attendance at law school and participation in the National Youth Service Corps overlapped. Kalu's legal team argued that no manifest criminal conduct had been established against him and that the Council lacked the authority to revoke a certificate without proof of criminal misconduct.
