The Republic of Congo has recorded a new hydrocarbon discovery in the offshore Moho permit, with TotalEnergies identifying a column of about 160 meters. Although oil accounts for nearly half of the Congolese GDP, local refining remains limited, leading to imports of petroleum products. Nigeria, with its Dangote Refinery, is cited as an example for local refining development, a strategy Congo could consider on a different scale. However, establishing refining units will require significant investments and technical partnerships.
