State police: Reps pass Bill, scales second reading in Senate

The Nigerian House of Representatives overwhelmingly voted in favor of a constitutional amendment bill to establish state police, with 289 out of 290 lawmakers supporting it. The bill also scaled second reading in the Senate. It now requires concurrence by the Senate, approval by at least two-thirds of state houses of assembly, and presidential assent. The reform aims to address worsening insecurity, including banditry and kidnapping.
