PASTEF Presidency: Sonko Endorsed for 6 Years by 583 Delegates at Congress

Ousmane Sonko was unanimously re-elected as president of PASTEF for a six-year term, receiving 100% of the vote from 583 delegates at the party's first congress in Diamniadio. The vote, the first in the party's history since its founding in 2014, comes amid an open political crisis between Sonko and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who dismissed Sonko as Prime Minister on May 22. PASTEF, which holds 130 of 165 seats in the National Assembly, has refused to join the new government and could file a motion of censure.
