Sweet protein brazzein shows promise in reducing blood sugar spikes: Study

A new study has shown that the natural sweet protein brazzein, originally found in the West African oubli plant, could help reduce post-meal blood sugar spikes. Participants with metabolic conditions consumed ice cream containing brazzein, sugar, or brazzein with inulin, and those with brazzein experienced lower blood sugar increases, especially among type 2 diabetics. Researchers note that longer-term studies are needed to determine sustained metabolic and health benefits. The WHO has advised against the long-term use of non-sugar sweeteners due to potential health risks.
