Kenya grows coffee, but someone else keeps the margin

Kenya primarily exports coffee cherries, leaving processing and branding to other countries. In June, President William Ruto launched a coffee revival program aimed at tripling output and increasing farmers' incomes. While reforms have been implemented to speed up payments to farmers, the issue of capturing added value remains a challenge. The country's experience shows that mandating local processing by decree has not always been successful.
