Air France and Airbus were found guilty of corporate manslaughter by the Paris Appeals Court over the crash of flight AF447 in 2009, which killed 228 people. The flight, which was traveling from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, crashed into the Atlantic Ocean after stalling during a storm. Although the companies were cleared in April 2023, they were found guilty after this appeal. Families of the victims, mainly French, Brazilian, and German nationals, criticized the maximum fine of €225,000 imposed on each company as a token penalty.
