New champions set to emerge as national 10km titles blown wide open

The ASA 10km Championships take place on Saturday at the North West Cricket Oval in Potchefstroom, with both national titles up for grabs. Defending women’s champion Tayla Kavanagh, who set a South African record of 30:50 in Romania this year, has ended her season, while 2024 champion Glenrose Xaba is racing the Boxer Super Run in Durban. KwaZulu-Natal Athletics’ Ntsoaki Molahloe is the women’s pre-race favourite with a 33:34 personal best as she targets her first senior national title. Carina Swiegers, a three-time consecutive national 3,000m steeplechase champion, is among her main challengers.
