Sir David Attenborough had a memorable encounter with a group of mountain gorillas in a Rwandan forest clearing, captured in his 1979 series 'Life on Earth'. As he approaches his 100th birthday, he is participating in two documentaries reflecting on that meeting and the story of the gorilla family. With the help of Dian Fossey, who founded the Karisoke Research Center, the crew was able to approach these endangered animals, whose population had dropped below 285 in the Virungas.
