Rwandan genocide: Eric Nshimiye convicted in US for lying about his role

A federal jury in Boston found 54-year-old Eric Nshimiye guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice for lying under oath during the 2019 trial of his former university classmate, Jean Leonard Teganya. Evidence at Nshimiye’s trial indicated that he took part in attacks on Tutsis in Butare in 1994, including striking people on the head with a club, and later concealed his role to gain entry to the United States as a refugee. He faces up to five years in prison for each of four perjury counts and a maximum of 10 years for obstruction of justice, with sentencing set for 26 January 2027. Nshimiye fled to Kenya in 1994 and was admitted to the US the following year; his lawyer said he would pursue avenues to challenge the verdict.

Noah advises the captain to use measures within her authority, such as having an improperly parked vehicle sealed, rather than give in to provocations.
