Return of the French ambassador to Algeria, a new sign of thaw between the two countries

The French ambassador, Stéphane Romatet, returned to Algeria a year after being recalled during a diplomatic crisis. Accompanied by Minister Alice Rufo, he participated in a ceremony in Sétif to commemorate the victims of the 1945 repressions. Rufo emphasized the importance of acknowledging the history and memories of both countries. Algerians present expressed a desire for France to recognize its responsibility for the massacres.
