Rise in caesarean section births in Gaza brings danger and infection risks

Duha Abu Yousef, 24, underwent an emergency caesarean section after suffering from severe anemia during her pregnancy in Gaza. She faced food shortages and traumatic events, including the killing of her brother and sister-in-law. Despite her attempts to improve her nutrition, famine severely impacted her health. She is now recovering in a partially destroyed shelter, holding her newborn baby.
