Chad: Eight opposition leaders sentenced to eight years in prison

Eight opposition leaders in Chad, arrested in late April, were sentenced to eight years in prison in N'Djamena. They are all members of the Political Actors Consultation Group (GCAP) and were arrested before a protest march that the government had banned. Their lawyer expressed disappointment at the ruling, calling the charges nonexistent and announcing plans to appeal. The day before their arrest, the GCAP had been dissolved by a Supreme Court ruling.
