Roelf Meyer: South Africa names apartheid-era politician as new ambassador to the US

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Roelf Meyer, a former constitutional affairs minister in the last apartheid government, as the new ambassador to the US. This appointment comes after the expulsion of former ambassador Ebrahim Rasool, worsening already strained relations between the two countries. Meyer, 78, played a key role in negotiations to end apartheid in the 1990s.
