On June 10, 2026, the US State Department announced the revocation of 600 visas worldwide, including 400 for Europeans and 200 for individuals from North or West Africa. This measure aims to combat "birth tourism" by preventing pregnant women from entering the US to give birth and obtain citizenship for their child through birthright citizenship. Approximately 25,000 babies are born annually in the US to women who entered on tourist visas. The US government is particularly monitoring countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, Morocco, Algeria, Ethiopia, and South Africa.
