President William Ruto announced the allocation of Ksh 4 billion to settle pending bills under the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) after assenting to the Supplementary Appropriations Bill, 2026. This funding aims to ease financial pressure on hospitals that have struggled with unpaid claims accumulated before the transition to the new social health authority. In addition to the NHIF arrears, the supplementary budget also allocates funds for the doctors' internship program and support for Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
