President William Ruto has set September 2026 as the deadline for the Kenya-EU data adequacy deal, which will allow free movement of personal data without costly safeguards. The nearly finalized agreement will make Kenya the first African nation to secure this status. The EU has committed €102 million (KSh15 billion) under the Digital Partnership to fund fiber-optic networks, public Wi-Fi, and eco-friendly data centers.
