Rwandan Sports Minister Nelly Mukazayire announced at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that Rwanda aims to become a sports hub in Africa. The country hosted the 2025 UCI Road World Championships, the 2026 FIFA Series, and the 2026 African Handball Nations Cup. A high-performance training center was inaugurated in March 2026 with the FIFA Secretary General. Rwanda also sponsored the LA Clippers (NBA) and LA Rams (NFL), a first for an African nation.
